MASON, W.Va. — West Virginia State Police are investigating after a man was found dead inside an unused Mason Police Department vehicle.
Troopers identified the man as 55-year-old Gregory Roush of Point Pleasant.
According to investigators, surveillance footage showed Roush driving into the police department’s parking lot on Aug. 30. The video reportedly captured him entering an unlocked, spare Chevrolet Tahoe through a rear passenger door and closing the door behind him.
Roush remained inside the vehicle until Sept. 1, when a family friend noticed his personal vehicle in the parking lot and contacted Mason Police Chief C. McKinney.
After reviewing surveillance footage, McKinney located Roush inside the police SUV.
State police said foul play is not suspected. Roush’s body was taken to the West Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
The circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.
