STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — A driver was taken into custody Wednesday evening after a series of incidents that reportedly began with a crash on North Fourth Street and ended with a head-on collision involving a semi on Route 7.
According to initial reports, an officer came across a crash in the 200 block of North Fourth Street around 7:25 p.m. A vehicle had struck a utility pole, and witnesses reported that a white SUV believed to have been involved had continued north.
Police then located the SUV as it traveled toward Route 7. Reports indicated the vehicle entered Route 7 North in the wrong direction and continued southbound in the northbound lanes.
During the incident, the SUV reportedly struck a barrier before colliding head-on with a semi near the Ross Street area around 7:29 p.m.
The vehicle came to a stop following the collision, and police took the driver into custody. EMS and fire crews were requested to the scene, and an ambulance later transported an individual from the area. The extent of any injuries was not immediately available.
Towing services were requested for both the SUV and the vehicle involved in the earlier North Fourth Street crash.
