BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio — A major improvement project is being developed for Interstate 70 in Belmont County, with construction currently scheduled to begin in spring 2029.
The project will include the full-depth reconstruction of approximately 4.52 miles of I-70, meaning the work will go beyond resurfacing and involve rebuilding the roadway.
Improvements are also planned for ramps at the Banfield Road interchange, National Road East interchange and High Ridge. The ramps at Mall Road are scheduled to be resurfaced as part of the project.
The project remains in development, with construction expected to last approximately 18 months once work begins.
Traffic will be maintained throughout construction, although specific traffic patterns, lane restrictions and other impacts have not yet been detailed in the project information.
Environmental reviews, consultations and other actions required under applicable federal environmental laws are being carried out by the Ohio Department of Transportation under agreements with federal transportation agencies.
With construction not scheduled to begin until 2029, additional information about the construction schedule and traffic impacts is expected as the project moves closer to the pre-construction and construction phases.
