State Approves Bidding for Drilling Rights Beneath Egypt Valley and Belmont County Wildlife Areas

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – Ohio’s Oil and Gas Land Management Commission has approved opening the bidding process for drilling rights beneath Egypt Valley and Jockey Hollow Wildlife Areas.

The decision allows energy companies to submit bids to drill for oil and gas resources located under the two state-owned properties. Surface activities would not be permitted within the wildlife areas, as drilling would be conducted from locations outside the boundaries.

Under state law, 30% of any upfront payment generated through the leasing process must be dedicated to improvements and upgrades at state park and wildlife facilities.

The bidding process and any subsequent leases will be overseen by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
