COLUMBIANA, Ohio — A Lisbon man, Kyle Smith, pleaded not guilty Monday to an OVI charge after crashing a motorhome under the State Route 164 bridge in Columbiana on Friday, splitting the RV in two and shearing off its roof.
Police found Smith inside the RV with his dog, which he passed through a window before climbing out. Smith suffered minor head cuts but refused hospital transport. Smith admitted he normally avoided the underpass and was talking on a Bluetooth phone while driving.
Sobriety tests indicated probable cause for OVI, and he was charged. His pretrial hearing is set for April.
Crews spent over two hours clearing the crash, and a Norfolk Southern inspector reported the bridge remains standing, though damage is still being assessed.
