WHEELING, W.Va. — Several major redevelopment projects are in various stages of progress across Wheeling, with city officials cautiously optimistic about what lies ahead.
A proposed downtown waterfront hotel continues to move forward, with a major announcement potentially expected within the next six to nine months. The long-running Streetscape Project, now in its fourth year, is expected to reach completion by late spring or early summer.
Not all projects are on track, however. Plans to convert the former Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel building into apartments remain on hold while developers wait for interest rates to drop. City officials say they are staying in contact with the developer but acknowledge the timeline is uncertain.
Leaders say they plan to keep working with developers to maintain momentum in the downtown area.
