MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia University has announced the end of FallFest, bringing to a close a campus tradition that entertained students for more than three decades.
University officials confirmed the annual concert will not return for the 2026 fall semester. According to WVU Executive Director of Strategic Communications Shauna Johnson, the decision was made as the university updates its Welcome Week programming based on student feedback and changing interests.
In place of FallFest, WVU plans to introduce new activities for incoming and returning students, including a Mountaineer Midway and Movie event scheduled for Aug. 17 on the downtown campus.
FallFest became one of the university’s most recognizable student events, attracting nationally known performers throughout its history. Artists who appeared at the event included Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller, Kanye West, Maroon 5, The Chainsmokers, 21 Savage, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Akon, Ludacris, The Black Eyed Peas, Busta Rhymes, Cage the Elephant and many others.
The university’s 2026 Welcome Week schedule will also include WVUp All Night, the Student Organization Fair, Sunday Night Lights at Milan Puskar Stadium, Academic Day Sessions and the first day of classes on Aug. 18.
The announcement marks the end of one of WVU’s longest-running student traditions as the university shifts toward new campus programming.
