PERRY COUNTY, Ohio — First responders from West Virginia spent approximately 12 hours assisting with rescue operations in Perry County after flash flooding left people stranded in homes and vehicles.
The Benwood Fire Department’s Swift Water Rescue Team was requested early Tuesday morning after heavy overnight rainfall caused flooding in the Crooksville area.
As water levels rose, emergency crews received multiple reports of residents trapped inside homes and motorists stranded in vehicles.
Members of the Benwood team responded with rescue and utility vehicles, command equipment and two boats to assist with the flooding emergency.
Benwood firefighters worked alongside several other departments and agencies throughout the response. According to the department, some of the participating crews had never worked together before the flooding but coordinated during the rescue operations.
The Benwood team spent roughly 12 hours assisting in Perry County before completing its response.
