BELLAIRE, Ohio — Construction on Bellaire’s new Recreation and Entertainment Complex is progressing, with much of the initial site work completed and installation of eight pickleball courts underway.
Silver Bridge has nearly finished its portion of the civil work. Crews have installed the stormwater, sewer and drinking-water systems, while the retention pond and drainage network have been completed and seeded.
A landscaped mound designed to provide privacy and amphitheater-style seating near the future performance stage is also finished. The complex’s new entrance and parking area have been excavated, covered with stone and compacted. A concrete apron for the entrance was scheduled to be poured Sept. 3.
T.A. Robinson began excavating the pickleball area Aug. 28. Plans called for storm drains and stone aggregate to be installed before paving began during the week of Sept. 7.
Once paved, the courts must cure for approximately 30 days before they can be sealed and painted. Valley Fencing is expected to begin installing fencing around the courts during the week of Sept. 14.
The overall project is running about six weeks behind schedule. Officials attributed the setback to unexpected excavation problems and substantial rainfall during July and August. Those issues have been addressed, and work is moving forward as weather permits.
The completed retention pond will collect stormwater from the courts, entrance, parking area and other developed portions of the property. By holding runoff and releasing it gradually, the system is intended to reduce flooding, limit erosion and help prevent pollutants from entering nearby waterways.
Officials said they are encouraged by the complex’s progress and hope favorable weather will continue through the remaining construction.
