Three Dead Following Double Homicide, Deputy-Involved Shooting in Marshall County

MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. — Three people are dead following an early-morning incident in Marshall County that authorities say involved a double homicide and a fatal shooting by law enforcement.

According to information released by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a 911 call from a residence along Middle Grave Creek Road near Moundsville at approximately 1:45 a.m. Thursday. Authorities said no one was speaking on the other end of the call.

Deputies were sent to the residence to investigate. As they arrived in the area, authorities said a man fired a handgun at the responding deputies.

A deputy returned fire, fatally striking the man.

Deputies then entered the residence and discovered two additional people dead inside.

Authorities have not released the identities of the three people involved. Investigators also have not said whether the man who reportedly fired at deputies was responsible for the deaths of the two people found inside the home.

The circumstances surrounding the two deaths and the subsequent law enforcement shooting remain under investigation.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and West Virginia State Police are handling the investigation. Additional information is expected to be released as the investigation continues.
