MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. – Concerns are growing in downtown Moundsville over several rental properties reported to be in poor and pest-infested condition. During Tuesday night’s City Council meeting, a resident raised complaints about a block of homes near Cypress, Center, and Cedar Avenues.
City Manager Rick Healy confirmed that the city has already sent in an exterminator to begin pest removal and will follow up with the building enforcement agency to ensure further action is taken.
Healy said the city is covering the initial cost of the abatement, which will later be billed to the landlord. All 12 units in question have been reviewed by the city’s building inspector, and officials are now assessing whether the properties meet habitability standards.
Depending on the results, the city may take steps to condemn the properties or require the landlord to make repairs and improvements.
Healy noted that the city is committed to addressing the issue while following proper legal procedures to respect property rights and due process.
