COLUMBUS, Ohio — Governor Mike DeWine has issued reprieves of execution for two Ohio death row inmates, citing the state’s continued difficulty in obtaining lethal injection drugs.
According to the Governor’s Office, Antonio Franklin, who was scheduled for execution on February 11, 2026, has had his date moved to February 15, 2029. James Trimble, previously set to be executed on March 12, 2026, will now face execution on March 14, 2029.
Governor DeWine said the reprieves were necessary due to “ongoing problems involving the willingness of pharmaceutical suppliers to provide drugs to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC), pursuant to DRC protocol, without endangering other Ohioans.”
Ohio has not carried out an execution since 2018 as the state continues to face legal and ethical challenges surrounding its lethal injection process.
