Courthouse Clerk Barred from Using Employee Entrance Amid Security Violation Probe

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Mahoning County Clerk of Courts Michael Ciccone has been denied access to the employee entrance of the courthouse where he works, forced instead to enter through public doors alongside visitors while under investigation for alleged security breaches.

The Mahoning County Board of Commissioners notified Ciccone in an email that his access to the building’s back door and emergency exit has been suspended effective immediately.

Commissioners say the decision came after Ciccone allegedly violated courthouse security rules, including entering the building improperly by bypassing the security station and accessing the facility after hours without authorization.

The restrictions were recommended by Courthouse Security and approved by the Presiding Judge of the Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas, according to the commissioners’ email.

Ciccone must now enter through public entrances and submit to standard security screening procedures — the same protocols required of courthouse visitors — for the duration of the investigation into the alleged security violations.

The suspension of his employee access privileges will remain in effect until the investigation concludes, commissioners stated.
