Glyptis: Cleveland-Cliffs Likely To Sell Weirton Tin Mill At Lower Price Range

WEIRTON, W.Va. – A longtime steel industry labor leader says a sale of the former Weirton tin mill may come at a reduced price.

Mark Glyptis says Cleveland-Cliffs is expected to sell the facility at the lower end of its asking price. Glyptis says seven or eight potential buyers have toured the mill, but no firm offers have been made.

The update comes about a week after U.S. Steel announced plans to restart tin mill operations in Gary, citing demand for domestically produced tinplate.

U.S. Steel says it expects to resume operations at the Indiana facility in early 2027, a move projected to create approximately 225 jobs.
