NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. — Ongoing financial issues prompted a large turnout at Monday evening’s regular meeting of the Hancock County Board of Education.
State-appointed Superintendent Walter Saunders told those in attendance that principals and department directors must base their staffing models on the district’s recent reduction-in-force.
Several teachers spoke during the meeting, raising concerns that students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) may not receive the level of support they need under the new staffing plan.
School officials acknowledged the concerns as the district continues to navigate budget challenges and staffing adjustments.
