CHARLESTON, W.Va. — It was a championship day for the Central Catholic Maroon Knights girls track team, as the program delivered multiple gold-medal performances at the 2026 WVSSAC State Track Meet, bringing state titles back to East Wheeling.
The Knights opened the day in dominant fashion by capturing the 4×800-meter relay state championship, as Elah Konkle, Rylee Wright, Elizabeth Steele, and Loni Kusic crossed the finish line in a winning time of 10:29.66, earning the first gold medal of the 2026 state meet for Central Catholic.
The championship momentum continued in individual events.
Senior Alexa Loy soared to a state title in the High Jump, clearing 5 feet to claim gold.
Sophomore Loni Kusic added another championship to the Knights’ incredible day, winning the 400-meter dash in a time of 60.61, giving Central Catholic yet another top spot on the podium.
With relay gold and multiple individual state champions, the Maroon Knights showcased the talent, determination, and hard work that have made them one of the top programs in the state.
