HOUSE FIRE IN BELMONT QUICKLY BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL ON MEMORIAL DAY

BELMONT, Ohio — Multiple fire departments responded to a structure fire Monday afternoon on East Main Street in Belmont after a caller reported flames coming from the upstairs of a home around 12:50 p.m.

According to emergency radio traffic and updates from crews on scene, heavy smoke and flames were visible from the second floor when firefighters arrived. Departments from Belmont, Bethesda, Barnesville, and Morristown were all dispatched to assist.

Firefighters worked aggressively inside the home to contain the blaze, while additional manpower was requested during overhaul operations to check for extensions and hotspots. AEP and the gas company were also contacted as crews secured utilities to the residence.

Officials later confirmed the main fire was knocked down shortly after 1 p.m., and crews remained on scene for several hours checking temperatures and ensuring the fire was fully extinguished.

One firefighter was transported for a reported back injury. Barnesville EMS also transported a female resident from the home to be evaluated.

In a statement following the incident, the Belmont Fire Department praised all responding agencies for their teamwork during the Memorial Day response. Fire officials said interior crews were able to contain the fire primarily to one room, though the second floor sustained heavy smoke damage and the first floor received moderate to light water damage.

Responding agencies included:
• Belmont Fire Department
