STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — City leaders in Steubenville are moving forward with plans to appoint a new police chief following the upcoming retirement of the department’s longtime leader.
Police Chief Ken Anderson, who has served the city for several decades, is scheduled to retire later this summer. His final day with the department is expected to be July 20.
City officials have already started the process of identifying potential candidates to lead the department into its next chapter. According to City Manager Mike Johnson, the city is seeking an individual with a strong background in law enforcement leadership and a comprehensive understanding of police operations.
The selection process will begin with an executive hiring committee reviewing qualified candidates and recommending individuals for interviews. Those recommendations will then be presented to city council members for further discussion.
Council is expected to meet in executive session to review applicants and determine which candidates will advance in the hiring process. Interviews could begin shortly afterward as officials work to ensure a smooth leadership transition within the department.
The city has not announced a timeline for selecting Anderson’s successor but officials say efforts are underway to have a replacement identified as the retirement date approaches.
