WILLARD, Ohio — An Ohio man is celebrating an unexpected lottery windfall after recovering a winning scratch-off ticket he accidentally threw in the trash.
According to the Ohio Lottery, the man purchased a Bingo 25 Times 25 scratch-off ticket from a Circle K store in Willard. After buying the ticket, he unknowingly discarded it before realizing he may have thrown away a potential winner.
Determined to find it, the man searched through a dumpster and successfully recovered the ticket.
His efforts paid off in a big way. The ticket turned out to be worth $100,000.
The Ohio Lottery said the winner, whose name was not released, was fortunate that the trash had not yet been collected when he discovered the mistake.
After state and federal tax withholdings, the winner will take home approximately $73,250.
