OHIO VALLEY — The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for much of Ohio as dangerously hot and humid conditions are expected to impact the region Tuesday afternoon.
The advisory is in effect from noon until 8 p.m., with heat index values expected to reach as high as 104 degrees in some areas.
Health officials warn that prolonged exposure to the heat can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses, especially for older adults, young children and those working or spending extended periods outdoors.
Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day and seek air-conditioned spaces whenever possible. Officials also recommend checking on elderly neighbors, family members and anyone who may be especially vulnerable to extreme temperatures.
Anyone who must be outside should wear lightweight, light-colored clothing, take frequent breaks in the shade and remain alert for symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke, including dizziness, heavy sweating, nausea, confusion and rapid pulse.
Forecasters expect the hottest conditions to occur during the afternoon and early evening before temperatures gradually begin to cool later tonight.
