Former Steelers Running Back Le’Veon Bell Arrested on Child Support Warrant

CANTON, Ohio — Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell was arrested Sunday in Canton on a warrant related to unpaid child support.

Bell, 34, was taken into custody on July 19 and is being held on behalf of another agency. Reports indicate the warrant originated in Michigan, where the child involved in the case resides.

According to Bell’s attorney, the former NFL player owes more than $50,000 in child support and has experienced financial difficulties since his professional football career ended.

Bell had been scheduled to appear at Belden Village Mall in Canton on Sunday for a public meet-and-greet and autograph signing event.

A Reynoldsburg native, Bell began his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers after being drafted in 2013. He later played for the New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before his final NFL season in 2021.

In 2025, Bell’s name was removed from the football stadium at his alma mater, Groveport Madison High School, after he and his brother were ordered in a civil case to pay $36 million to a woman who alleged they sexually assaulted her as a child. Neither brother responded to the lawsuit, resulting in a default judgment. Neither was criminally charged in connection with those allegations.

The child support case remains ongoing.
