ZANESVILLE, Ohio — A Muskingum County jury has convicted a Zanesville man on drug charges following a case involving methamphetamine discovered inside a vehicle at a gas pump.
Joseph Angelo was found guilty Aug. 11 of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office. Jurors also approved the forfeiture of property connected to the case.
Angelo represented himself during the trial. Assistant Prosecutor Warren Edwards handled the case on behalf of the state.
During the proceedings, prosecutors presented testimony concerning statements Angelo allegedly made at different stages of the investigation and court process.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Angelo gave varying explanations for the substance found in his possession. At one point, he reportedly described it as a health supplement, while another explanation indicated he initially believed the substance was methamphetamine.
After hearing the evidence presented in the case, the jury returned guilty verdicts on both charges.
