STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — The walking track at Jim Woods Park could receive a new surface and other repairs as the city assembles funding for the project.
Steubenville has applied for multiple grants through the Jim Woods Walking Track Rehabilitation Program. Funding already secured includes $10,000 from the Jefferson County Commission, several smaller grants and a larger award from the PNC J.C. Williams Foundation.
City Manager Michael Johnson said the grants are expected to cover approximately 65% to 70% of the project’s total cost. The city plans to pay the remaining balance.
The rehabilitation will address cracks throughout the track. Crews are expected to remove damaged sections around the larger cracks, fill those areas and install a new surface.
Work is expected to begin soon and could be completed by the end of October.
Johnson said Steubenville will continue pursuing additional funding opportunities for Jim Woods Park and other recreational facilities. City officials hope grant funding will allow the community to improve public amenities while reducing the amount paid directly by the city.
