WHEELING, W.Va. — Ella J. McCardle officially took the oath of office Wednesday afternoon to become Ohio County’s circuit court clerk.
Judge David Sims administered the oath during a formal swearing-in ceremony.
McCardle brings more than 15 years of legal experience to the position. Before assuming her new role, she worked as an administrative assistant for Sims.
The circuit clerk’s office maintains records for Ohio County’s circuit and family courts. Its responsibilities include processing civil, criminal, divorce, custody and juvenile cases, along with jury-related matters, legal filings and U.S. passport applications.
McCardle said she plans to consult the county’s four circuit judges and the office’s deputy clerks to identify potential improvements. She hopes their combined input will help make the office more effective for employees and the public.
McCardle also said she looks forward to continuing to assist Ohio County residents with the wide range of services provided by the clerk’s office.
