BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio — East Ohio Regional Hospital remained unsold Wednesday after no prospective buyers submitted a bid during a sheriff’s sale.
The closed hospital complex and approximately seven acres of property were offered together as a single parcel. The opening bid was set at $2,617,176.34.
Under the announced terms, the successful bidder would have been required to pay 10% of the purchase price on the day of the sale, with the remaining balance due within 30 days.
When officials opened bidding, no offers were made. County personnel conducting the sale were reportedly the only people in attendance, with no bidders or spectators present.
Belmont County Treasurer Katherine Kelich said her office had received inquiries about the property but had no confirmation that an interested party planned to attend. She said several factors may have influenced the outcome, including the opening price and vandalism reported at the hospital.
The property will be offered again during a second auction scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sept. 16. The sale will take place in the former jail courtroom at the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office, where sheriff’s auctions are regularly held.
