JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio Valley Health Center is expanding services for uninsured and underinsured residents after receiving two grants totaling $30,000.
A $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation of the Ohio Valley will help the health center add abdominal ultrasound services. The new capability will allow ultrasound imaging to be performed at the center and reviewed by a radiologist, giving providers another tool to evaluate patients and determine when additional specialized care may be needed.
The center also received $20,000 from the Anne Sonneborn Charitable Foundation to support its annual women’s health program.
As part of that program, the Ohio Valley Health Center plans to hold a women’s health education event at the Steubenville Public Library on Feb. 18. Four nurse practitioners are scheduled to discuss several health topics, including cancer screenings, osteoporosis and heart health.
Women will also have an opportunity to register for mammograms, Pap tests and DEXA screenings planned for March at the health center.
The grants will support the center’s continued efforts to provide preventive health services and improve access to care for uninsured and underinsured residents throughout the area.
The Ohio Valley Health Center continues to pursue additional funding and programs aimed at expanding the services available to the community.
