CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Candidates across West Virginia are filing to run for state and federal offices as the primary election draws closer.
Former State Senate President Jeff Kessler has filed as a Democrat to challenge incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Shelly Moore Capito. In another high-profile race, current 4th District Democratic Delegate Shawn Fluharty has filed to run against Republican District 1 State Senator Laura Wakim Chapman.
At the local level in Marshall County, Riley Watkins, a 21-year-old exercise physiology student at West Liberty University, has filed to seek the 5th District seat in the West Virginia House of Delegates.
