JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will receive a $30,000 state grant to support efforts in fighting drug trafficking as part of a larger initiative announced by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine on Friday.

The funding comes from DeWine’s RecoveryOhio Law Enforcement Fund, which is awarding more than $2.2 million to 34 drug task forces across the state. The initiative aims to bolster law enforcement’s ability to disrupt drug trafficking operations and enhance substance use prevention and recovery efforts.

“This grant program helps local law enforcement stop drug traffickers and prevent drug dependence using a two-pronged approach,” said DeWine. “Not only do they work to stem the flow of drugs, but they’re also helping citizens with prevention and recovery support.”

Other local recipients of the grant include the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office, which will receive $142,248, and the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, awarded $48,016.

The RecoveryOhio grants are designed to help law enforcement identify and dismantle high-level drug trafficking operations, halt the movement of drugs and illicit funds from international cartels, and prevent the spread of illegal narcotics in Ohio communities.

Beyond enforcement, the funding supports DeWine’s broader RecoveryOhio mission — promoting substance use and mental health awareness, providing prevention education in schools, expanding treatment access, and encouraging long-term recovery.

The Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services administers the grant program, with funding secured through collaboration between the Governor’s office and the Ohio General Assembly in the state’s operating budget.
