Belmont County Tourism Unveils America250 Plans, Events for Historic 2026

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, OH — Belmont County Tourism is gearing up for a big year as America celebrates its 250th anniversary, with local leaders unveiling a wide range of community events, historical initiatives, and tourism projects designed to showcase Belmont County’s heritage and future.

Belmont County Tourism Executive Director Jackee Pugh shared the update with county commissioners, highlighting plans tied to both America250 and Belmont County’s own 225th anniversary.

Pugh said the milestone is about more than just marking dates on a calendar — it’s an opportunity to celebrate local history, strengthen community pride, and attract visitors from across the region.

Among the projects underway is a countywide America250 event guide, a community time capsule capturing life in Belmont County today, and a new America250 student art contest that will transform winning artwork into murals in participating communities.

Tourism officials are also partnering with COSI and regional organizations on exhibits for the Underground Railroad Museum in Morristown, while continuing work on heritage preservation and placemaking projects across the county.

Upcoming events include:

  • A ribbon-cutting ceremony at Barkcamp State Park for its renovated historic barn
  • Community presentations on The Wall That Heals, a traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial replica coming to Belmont County in October
  • A Memorial Day weekend welcome for Run for the Wall, with approximately 350 motorcyclists expected to ride through St. Clairsville in honor of veterans

Tourism officials are encouraging residents to line the streets with flags as riders arrive on May 24, followed by a Memorial Day ceremony downtown on May 25.

Pugh also highlighted Belmont County’s growing tourism footprint, noting strong interest in local attractions and promoting experiences like the county’s Bigfoot-themed geo-tour, featuring 22 GPS-based geocache stops throughout Belmont County.

Officials say Belmont County Tourism continues expanding its outreach through heritage preservation, tourism development, and community partnerships aimed at celebrating local history while welcoming visitors to the region.
