HANCOCK COUNTY, W.Va. – The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office says a Newell man was killed Wednesday after tons of concrete collapsed onto him during an accident near Glendale Road.
Deputies say they received a call around 11 a.m. reporting a man trapped beneath a wall.
Investigators believe the victim had anchored chains to a concrete retaining wall while attempting to demolish a trailer camper. Authorities say forces placed on the wall by the chains, combined with softened soil from recent rainfall, apparently caused the wall to topple onto the man.
The incident remains under investigation.
