In this week’s edition of The Loop, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) shared major updates on highway safety improvements and efforts to build the next generation of transportation workers.
One of the biggest announcements impacts the Ohio Valley: ODOT says the historic Blaine Hill Bridge on U.S. 40 in Belmont County is scheduled to fully reopen on July 1, with both lanes open to traffic and no temporary traffic signals needed. The bridge has been undergoing extensive rehabilitation for nearly a year.
ODOT also highlighted a recently completed roadway widening project on State Route 556 in Monroe County, designed to give drivers more recovery space and help reduce roadway departure crashes. Similar safety projects are planned throughout eastern Ohio.
In addition, ODOT is investing in the future workforce by promoting careers in construction and transportation. Thousands of students recently participated in hands-on demonstrations during Construction Career Days, learning about heavy equipment operations and apprenticeship opportunities.
Officials say these projects are aimed at making Ohio’s roads safer while ensuring enough skilled workers are available to tackle future infrastructure improvements.
