BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio — Firefighters from multiple departments responded to a working structure fire Wednesday afternoon after a dryer reportedly caught fire inside a trailer home on Weegee Road.
Emergency crews were dispatched shortly before 2 p.m. after a caller reported smoke and flames coming from a dryer inside the residence.
Due to the rural location and limited access to nearby hydrants, tanker operations were quickly established to ensure an adequate water supply. Mutual aid departments from Belmont, Marshall, and Ohio counties were called to assist as the response expanded.
Upon arrival, firefighters reported smoke showing from the structure and upgraded the incident to a working fire. Additional engines, tankers, and manpower were requested as crews worked to contain the blaze.
Officials also activated an all-call response and requested additional firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus to assist with interior operations.
Water shuttle operations were established using fill sites in the area while crews battled the fire.
By approximately 2:30 p.m., firefighters reported the fire had been extinguished and began releasing mutual aid units from the scene. Several companies remained on location to monitor for hot spots and assist with overhaul operations.
American Electric Power and the local water department were notified to assist crews following the incident.
No injuries were immediately reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
