OHIO VALLEY — Hot and humid conditions will continue across the region today and tomorrow, creating an environment that could support isolated strong to severe thunderstorms.
Forecasters say scattered showers and storms are expected at times through the remainder of the work week. The combination of warm temperatures and high humidity will make the atmosphere unstable, increasing the potential for a few stronger storms.
Today carries a marginal risk for severe weather, the lowest level on the Storm Prediction Center’s five-category scale. Morning showers and storms could help set the stage for additional development later in the day.
If stronger storms form, the greatest chance appears to be between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., with the highest threat occurring during the evening hours. Damaging wind gusts and hail will be the primary concerns.
Tomorrow is expected to bring a similar pattern, with periods of showers and thunderstorms possible throughout the day. A marginal risk for severe weather remains in place, and any storms that develop could once again produce isolated damaging winds and hail.
While rain is not expected to be continuous, brief heavy downpours are possible with any storm. The heat and humidity are also expected to remain elevated through the next several days.
Residents are encouraged to stay weather aware and monitor forecasts for any watches or warnings that may be issued.
