OHIO VALLEY — Strong thunderstorms are possible across portions of the Ohio Valley Wednesday night as warmer temperatures and increasing humidity create favorable conditions for storm development.
While the greatest risk for severe weather is expected to remain west of the region during the afternoon and evening hours, a line of showers and thunderstorms is expected to move through the area late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.
Most of the Ohio Valley remains under a marginal risk for severe weather, meaning isolated strong storms are possible. Areas farther west face a slightly greater threat due to warmer temperatures and increased atmospheric instability.
The primary concern with any stronger storms will be damaging wind gusts. Heavy rainfall is also possible, which could lead to localized flooding in some areas.
The storm threat is expected to shift eastward on Thursday, with portions of the region continuing to face a low-end risk for severe weather. However, the strongest weather dynamics may move through before peak daytime heating occurs.
Current forecasts indicate the best chance for rain and thunderstorms will arrive overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning.
Residents are encouraged to remain weather aware and monitor forecasts for any watches or warnings that may be issued.
