Heavy Rain Causes Street Flooding Across Ohio County

OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. — Heavy rainfall Monday evening led to flooding on several roadways and low-lying areas throughout Ohio County.

According to Ohio County Emergency Management Director Lou Vargo, flooding was reported at multiple locations, including Elm Grove Plaza, Kruger Street, County Road 1, and East Bethlehem Boulevard.

East Bethlehem Boulevard was temporarily closed due to high water but has since reopened as conditions improved.

City officials also reported flooding along Kruger Street near McDonald’s, where water briefly covered portions of the roadway before receding.

At this time, emergency officials say they are not aware of any significant flooding along local creeks or streams. Vargo noted that water levels have begun to fall as rainfall tapers off and storm drains continue to clear accumulated runoff.

Meanwhile, members of the community are offering support to those affected by the severe weather.

Pastor Michael Palmer of Triadelphia United Methodist Church announced that the church would open its doors at 6 p.m. Monday for anyone experiencing anxiety, fear, or concerns related to the storms. Palmer said residents are welcome to stop by for a safe place to gather and receive support during the weather event.

Officials continue to monitor conditions and urge motorists to use caution when traveling through areas that have experienced flooding.
