Trump Says He’ll Deliver Lengthy July 4 Speech Despite Extreme Heat Forecast

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump says he still plans to deliver an extended Independence Day address in the nation’s capital despite forecasts calling for dangerously hot temperatures on the Fourth of July.

Speaking Wednesday during the opening ceremony for the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in North Dakota, Trump joked that the expected heat would not shorten his remarks, saying he intends to give a lengthy speech “just to show that I can do anything.”

Trump is scheduled to speak during the Salute to America 250 Celebration and Fireworks on the National Mall as part of the nation’s ongoing 250th anniversary observances. His address is expected to begin at 9:45 p.m. EDT.

The celebration will also feature military flyovers, aerial demonstrations and a large fireworks display later in the evening.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a daytime high near 107 degrees in Washington, D.C., with temperatures expected to remain warm into the evening. Although conditions are forecast to cool after sunset, officials say heat and humidity will continue to pose a risk for those attending outdoor events.

Forecasters are also warning that elevated humidity could make temperatures feel even hotter and have advised anyone spending extended time outdoors to stay hydrated, seek shade when possible and watch for signs of heat-related illness.

The Fourth of July celebration is expected to draw large crowds to the National Mall despite the extreme heat forecast.
